Fortunate fish taken for walk - 15th July 2022 View All

This man, Jerry Huang, is an inventor and he's walking around Taichung, Taiwan with his latest invention – a transportable fish tank.

Huang had noticed other animals such as cats, dogs and even snakes and lizards going for a walk. He imagined providing fish with the same wonderful opportunity.

Jerry Huang: "As a creator and inventor, I feel many things are possible. We all have this urge to explore other uninhabitable exotic worlds. That's why we send spaceships to the universe. If I were a goldfish, I would definitely be super thrilled if someone invented something for me to go and explore other worlds."

After several weeks of playing around with ideas, Huang came up with the idea of a goldfish 'stroller', rather like a young child's pushchair. He constructed it from bits and pieces which were lying around.

Jerry Huang: "I did a lot of research before I started making this fish tank. It's not a spur of the moment thing. You need to understand the fish. There's a reason why I chose goldfish."

The inventor's first task was to choose the fish. Huang selected goldfish – a tough animal that wouldn't die easily. Then he started putting together the tank. The fish can watch the outside world from their water-filled container, while the cleaning and breathing systems sit underneath. The strange object was constructed for $300 to $400.

The attention that it's attracted has been a shock to Huang.

Jerry Huang: "I was thinking not only will this be a novel way to attract people's attention, but the children will also learn a few things about aquariums."

The fish seem perfectly happy on their city tour. Meanwhile, both old and young members of the public are delighted by the new invention.

Lily Lee: "I have never seen this before. It's novel and strange and quite creative!"

And for the fish, the views from this tank are considerably more exciting than from a typical fish bowl. View Less
