Fish take to life on land - 15th July 2022 View All

In the streets of Taichung, Taiwan, inventor Jerry Huang is parading his latest masterpiece, a mobile aquarium. Having observed proud pet owners exercising their cats, dogs and even snakes, lizards and spiders, Huang couldn't help contemplating the possibility of giving aquatic creatures a glimpse of life on land.

Jerry Huang: "As a creator and inventor, I feel many things are possible. We all have this urge to explore other uninhabitable exotic worlds. That's why we send spaceships to the universe. If I were a goldfish, I would definitely be super thrilled if someone invented something for me to go and explore other worlds."

The innovator soon put his mind to it and after weeks of flirting with different designs, the goldfish stroller solution dawned on him, an idea which ultimately became a reality after cobbling together odds and ends that he found strewn around the place.

Jerry Huang: "I did a lot of research before I started making this fish tank. It's not a spur of the moment thing. You need to understand the fish. There's a reason why I chose goldfish."

Huang plumped on goldfish due to their strong survival skills and then began piecing together the contraption. The oddly futuristic-looking apparatus, which cost roughly $300 to $400 to construct, comprises a battery-operated filtration unit and an air pump on a trolley. This is topped by a sizeable acrylic cylinder from which the fortunate fish watch the world go by.

The level of attention which the fishy gizmo's garnered has caught Huang unawares.

Jerry Huang: "I was thinking not only will this be a novel way to attract people's attention, but the children will also learn a few things about aquariums."

Whilst youngsters and adults are frequently left open-mouthed by the quirky tank as it trundles through the streets of the Taiwanese city, the fish themselves appear at ease.

Lily Lee: "I have never seen this before. It's novel and strange and quite creative!"

Needless to say, these goldfish have an exceptional and ever-changing view of life on land from their miniature underwater world. View Less
