Singapore releases vaccine song - 12th May 2021 View All
In comparison to many countries, Singapore has experienced only small outbreaks of Covid-19, but as cases have started to rise again, the government is promoting its vaccination programme via quite unusual means: it has produced a vaccination anthem guaranteed to get stuck in your head.
(Song)
The video is fronted by a popular 90s sitcom character, Phua Chu Kang, sporting his signature curly hair and rubber boots. Phua persuades his wife Rosie to get her shot in a rap in Singlish, an English-based creole language.

Played by comedian Gurmit Singh, Phua addresses the reasons why many are reluctant to get the vaccination. He also dispels the myths surrounding the vaccine.

Titled "Get Your Shot" and promoted with the hashtag #igotmyshot, the video is available on YouTube and the Singapore government's vaccination page, where it is backed up by further medical information.
Phua has a track record of setting medical advice to music, producing songs during the SARS outbreak and again during the first outbreaks of Covid. However, "Get Your Shot" is the character's biggest hit yet.

Speaker of Parliament Tan Chuan-Jin, reacting to the news over Phua’s latest release, posted on Twitter: "Get vaccinated! Otherwise we will have to keep playing this video ad nauseum." View Less
