One of the world's most famous TV stars has died. Matthew Perry, who plays the role of Chandler Bing in 'Friends', was found dead in his home in Los Angeles. The cause of death of the 54 year old actor is still unknown.
Perry's acting career began when he was 11 years old. But at 24, he became an international star for his role in Friends. Perry was the youngest cast member.
After hearing the news of Perry's death, fans gathered outside the New York apartment where the sitcom was filmed. Some, like Hope Pace, travelled from far away to show their grief.
Hope Pace: "Well, I've been fighting tears since I got here. I came because I was able, and I think it's important to pay respect to people who played a big part in our culture."
The final episode of Friends was filmed in 2004. But the sitcom's still popular. Desislaba Stoeva watches daily.
Desislaba Stoeva: "Feel very sad. It's gonna be weird rewatching it again. I actually watch it almost every day. I think he brought a lot of himself into the character and transformed it into something more than what it was."
Perry was popular with Friends fans. But the star also had his personal problems. At 14, Perry became addicted to alcohol. Later, he became addicted to the strong medication which his doctors gave him.
Perry tried to improve his health several times. But his health became so bad that he almost lost his life. After this experience, Perry transformed his home into a recovery centre for alcohol and drug addicts.
Perry's kindness showed in his character Chandler Bing in Friends. This always brought happiness to his fans.
Katie Cutler: "He was such a heartwarming, kind, uplifting person that I feel like everyone could just turn on the TV and feel immediately comforted by him." View Less
