Terminal man dies - 21st December 2022 View All
Mehran Karimi Nasseri, who lived for 18 years in an airport, has died. Hollywood made a film about him, which is called 'The Terminal'. Nasseri was an Iranian man who travelled from Paris to London in 1988. His documents were stolen and he was sent back to Paris. But without his papers, he was stuck at Charles de Gaulle airport.
During the 18 years Nasseri was at the airport, the staff provided food, medication, books and a radio for him. He also had his own space in Terminal 2F on a plastic bench as his home. He called himself 'King Alfred' and he became famous around the world.
Nasseri's situation attracted writers and filmmakers like Steven Spielberg. The film 'The Terminal', starring Tom Hanks, was based on him. The film producers paid Nasseri $275,000 for his story. But the story never got told in the film.
France accepted Nasseri as a refugee in 1999. They gave him permission to live in the country. But Nasseri's lawyers said he was too scared to leave the airport.
In 2006, Nasseri had to go to the hospital because he fell ill. When he left the hospital, he was put in special care. But Nasseri returned to his old home at the airport in September 2022. There, he suffered a heart attack and passed away. View Less
