Fashion Grandmas - 11th June 2021 View All
These retired Chinese women have formed a new social media group. They are the Fashion Grandmas. This group is one of the most successful groups on China's social media, with thousands and thousands of fans.
The Fashion Grandmas film themselves dressed up in elegant clothes. They also give advice about relationships, romance and living well.
The number of retired people in China is increasing fast. The working population is decreasing. Social media is becoming more and more popular with older people. This means there are lots of business opportunities for companies.
One Fashion Grandma is Sang Xiuzhu, aged 76. She doesn't think about her age. She enjoys life.
Sang Xiuzhu: "I think the elderly should also live the way they want and be optimistic. Don’t keep thinking about how old you are. Our ‘Fashion Grandma’ group has a slogan: Age is just a number."
Being a Fashion Grandma is a great way to get rich. Pop-up ads and livestream selling make lots of money. They sometimes sell 200 items a minute and the market's growing. And they don't need to worry about managing their money. They pay an agent to do this.
Video channel presenter Ruan Yaging says young people are wrong about the elderly. She thinks older people have lots of knowledge and experience of the modern world.
Ruan Yaqing: "The elderly nowadays are different. We are exposed to everything and will learn everything. We are not like what young people assume, that we know nothing. It’s wrong – actually the elderly know everything, and can accept everything. Everyone says that I’m an influencer now." View Less
