Elevated palates - 22nd April 2022 View All

Indonesia has taken dining to a whole new level, suspending diners more than 50 metres above ground before serving up culinary delights.

Dubbed the "Lounge In The Sky'' and mechanically hoisted into the air by a crane, the restaurant requires diners, chefs and waiters to don safety gear, including safety harnesses, throughout the elevated dining experience.

Capable of seating just 32 guests at one time, diners pay a high price for their elevated palates, with prices starting at $110 and rising to cover not only the gourmet spread but also the rarity of being hoisted mid-air to drink in the stunning vistas. Dinda Dimas was elated by it all.

Dinda Dimas: "This is worth such a high price because we can see the scenery and the restaurant rotates while we are eating. The food is also delicious."

However, Lounge In The Sky isn't for the faint of heart. If you suffer from acrophobia, your appetite might prove elusive when looking down from your lofty perch. Yuni recounts her emotional journey.

Yuni: "At first, it was not easy. I was nervous that I wouldn't be able to swallow the food, let alone drink. But after some time I could eventually eat. It was thrilling!"

Despite opening its doors during Ramadan, the Muslim holy month of fasting, the Lounge In The Sky has been teeming with customers seeking to break their fast in a unique way.

Bayu: "It was a bit challenging indeed, but only at the beginning. But because we were up there for an hour, and we were very hungry after fasting, we could eat in the end."

If you'd like to take your dining experience to new heights, the enterprise's website strongly recommends that you "Go to the toilet beforehand," or else the whole elevated dining experience may plummet for everyone. View Less
