Huge wedding in Ethiopia - 24th Jan 2024
Many happy couples came together in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. They wanted to get married. It was one big wedding!
Large weddings are popular here. Ethiopia's different cultures meet.
For this woman, the wedding's fantastic. And it can save money too.
Gadise Zabana: "It is so pleasing to get wed like this with many people from different cultures and we also save ourselves from wedding expenses."
The organisers were pleased. This was the first big wedding for 10 years. One reason for this was Covid-19. Now, the organisers want to bring back the weddings. They could be good for tourism.
The couples walked through the streets. Most wore white clothes. But the clothes weren't the same. They change from place to place, from people to people. Ethiopia's full of different groups. It has over 80 languages!
This man speaks Amharic. He enjoys all the cultures. He loves the different songs and dances.
Workeneh Assefa: "There are so many distinct cultural attires and wedding songs which makes this unique. Mass wedding is pleasing. We are delighted."
People make friends here. Eshetu Geletu's an organiser. For him, group weddings join people together. And that's good for Ethiopia.
Eshetu Geletu: "Building a family is building a nation. That is the main objective of our project."
