Making Spain wild again - 2nd January 2023
There's a new plan in Spain for the environment. The project's name is "Rewilding Europe". It will bring animals back.
The project is for the Iberian Highlands. This area's in the east of Spain. It's a special place. There are millions of trees. Only a few people live there – two people per square kilometre. Places like that are unusual in Europe.
Rewilding Europe will bring animals like lynx back. Lynx are big cats. They'll return in 12-24 months. These cats are predators. They eat other animals. That's good for the whole environment.
Recently, the project brought special cows back. And wild horses joined them. Soon, big birds will be part of the list.
The plan will protect the forests too.
The changes won't only help nature. In the past, people left the area for work. Now, Rewilding Europe wants to bring tourists here. So the project will help nature and people too.
