Airline has a change of clothes - 25th October 2021
One airline, SkyUp, in Ukraine has decided to change its uniform. The women cabin crew used to wear high heeled shoes. Now they are allowed to wear trainers.
And that's not the only change. They can also now wear loose jackets and trousers instead of tight skirts.
Women cabin crew often wear high heels for over 12 hours. Many of them regularly see special foot doctors. "If you wear high heels, you are hardly able to walk afterwards," said cabin crew member Daria Solomennaya, 27.
SkyUp asked its staff if they liked their uniform. The women said they were tired of wearing high heels, tight shirts and skirts.
Many other airlines have also changed their uniform rules. Japan Airlines and Norwegian Air now allow their staff to wear flat shoes. Flight attendants at Virgin Atlantic don't have to wear makeup anymore.
Things are changing in the airline business. But 30 year old company Ukraine International Airlines is staying traditional. It doesn’t think all airlines should change their uniforms.
