Teenager flies around world - 3rd October 2022
A 17-year-old pilot, Mack Rutherford, has just broken the world record. On his own, he's managed to fly around the world, over 52 countries. It's taken him five months.
The Belgian-British teenager travelled in a small plane which was very light but could fly up to 300 km/h. The tiny plane took him over Europe, Africa, Asia and North America. Mack flew for 11 hours daily. During these long flights, he saw beautiful places which kept him interested.
The most frightening moment was during terrible weather. He had to land his tiny plane on an island which was empty of people. That night, he slept near the old airport.
When he completed his journey, after landing in Bulgaria, Mack received two Guinness world records. These didn't come as a surprise. Mack's family, past and present, are all pilots. A few months ago, his older sister Zara made the same journey! During Mack's trip, Zara often advised him on his route.
Mack believes people should do what they want, whatever their age. "Follow your dreams," he said.
