Dame Hilary Mantel is a writer. Her new book is ‘The Mirror and the Light’. It is about Thomas Cromwell. He worked for King Henry VIII. There are three books in Mantel’s story. This is the final book.
Cromwell was born in 1485. He was poor. He became very powerful. He controlled England for 10 years. He killed many people. Many people didn’t like him. In 1540, the king cut his head off.
The first two books about Cromwell are ‘Wolf Hall’ and ‘Bring up the Bodies’. The last book is about the end of Cromwell’s life.
‘Wolf Hall’ and ‘Bringing Up the Bodies’ both won the Booker Prize. ‘The Booker’ is a famous UK book prize. Mantel is the first woman with two Booker wins. This book could win it too. Mantel could be the first person with three Booker prizes.
