Swiss village gets light dusting - 31st August 2020
Cocoa snow fell on a small Swiss town to the astonishment of local residents following a ventilation system malfunction at a nearby chocolate factory.
Lindt & Spruengli, the chocolatier owner of the factory, reported that a minor defect in the system that cools freshly roasted cocoa nibs was the source of the chocolate precipitation.
The glitch caused cocoa particles to cascade out of the factory vents where they were whipped up by gusts of wind, settling on the surrounding town.
The company emphasised that the nibs, fragments of crushed cocoa beans which constitute the basis of all chocolate recipes, posed no threat to people or the environment.
With one car covered in a light and tasty cocoa coating, Lindt & Spruengli has extended an offer to cover any cleaning costs incurred by residents, although a claim has yet to be made.
Chocaholics need not fear that the cocoa snow will lead to a confectionery shortage, however. The ventilation system is back up and running and the factory is once again churning out its chocolate.
