Scientists in Japan are making a new medicine. It grows teeth. They want to help children with tooth problems. In 2024, they'll start testing the drug on humans.
Katsu Takahashi leads the team. He worked with the USAG-1 protein. This protein stops tooth growth. The team used the medicine to block this protein.
The scientists gave the medicine to animals. These animals didn't have all their teeth. The animals grew new teeth.
Takahashi is excited about next year's tests. Some children can't grow teeth. Takahashi wants his medicine to help them.
Humans usually grow two sets of teeth. We lose the first set of teeth between age 6 and 13.
The medicine will be for children from 2 to 6 years old. It may be possible for them to grow their teeth naturally.
The medicine could fix other missing tooth problems in the future. Takahashi's medicine could help people smile again.
