Making water from air - 23rd August 2021

One quarter of the world's population has no safe water to drink. This is because of climate change, wars and the large number of people. We need new technology to help solve this problem.

Watergen is just one company which is working on a solution. It takes water from the air. This brings drinking water to areas which really need it.

"Water is a basic human right," says Watergen boss Michael Mirilashvili.

The Earth’s atmosphere contains 13 billion tonnes of fresh water. Watergen's machines change the water from the air into liquid, and this isn't complicated to do.

For Watergen, it's simpler than transporting water from place to place. There are no dirty pipes or plastic bottles. And it's even possible to use polluted city air.

This science could have a very positive effect on the water industry and on the Earth.

Watergen's biggest machines can produce 6,000 litres of water a day. They are already used in hospitals in Gaza and also in the countryside in Africa.

This company doesn't just want to stop people dying. It also hopes to improve people's lives.
