AI is the word of the year - 1st Jan 2024
Sensations English has chosen AI – Artificial Intelligence – as the word of the year for 2023.
AI was very important in many areas in 2023. It was first developed in the 1950s, but in spring 2023, it became big news. ChatGPT 4 came out in March 2023. It's a kind of robot or ‘virtual assistant' which can do all kinds of jobs.
Today's AI is trained on real-life literature, painting and films. The AI programmes process that information. They then create new articles, stories, jokes and movies in just seconds.
After ChatGPT 4 came out, people became anxious. Even technology experts like Elon Musk felt afraid. They wrote to AI developers and explained why.
Since then, many famous people have complained about AI as well. It uses themselves or their work, but the artists haven't agreed to it. In 2023, Hollywood writers went on strike about AI and pay.
AI can be used in a really creative way, by artists of different kinds. But because it can do people's jobs, workers like journalists, business people and even teachers could become jobless.
Most people agree that AI is changing our world. But will it change it in a positive or a negative way?
