Lizzo's quick change - 4th July 2022

Lizzo has released an updated version of her newest song 'GRRRLS'. Fans were upset about some offensive lyrics in the original version.

The lyric in the original release of 'GRRRLS' was an offensive word for the brain disorder spastic diplegia, which is a form of cerebral palsy. Lizzo's "shocked" and "disappointed" fans pushed her to replace the word. She took the criticism and replaced the offensive word after just a week of releasing the song.

Lizzo posted on social media about the situation. She said that she never wants to hurt or offend anyone with her lyrics. "As a fat black woman in America, I've had many hurtful words used against me so I understand the power words can have."

Lizzo said that the quick change was "the result of me listening and taking action." As a famous artist with a lot of influence, she wants to use her music for positive change. The updated version of 'GRRRLS' is now available on Apple Music, Spotify and YouTube.

Lizzo's actions were praised by autism activist Callum Stephen. He said he was "proud of Lizzo for listening to the disabled community. Everyone makes mistakes - what is important is how we respond to them."

Author Malorie Blackman also spoke positively about Lizzo's swift actions. "We're all only human and we all sometimes get things wrong. It's how we handle the resultant criticism and move forward that helps to define us."
