'Clean meat' in Singapore - 11th January 2021
You can now eat meat which is made by scientists. This ‘clean meat’ hasn’t come from a dead animal. Singapore is the first country to sell the meat.
One US clean meat company, Eat Just, is located in San Francisco. It makes ‘clean’ chicken meat in a scientific laboratory. It can now sell this clean meat in Singapore. It will use the meat to make chicken nuggets.
The new meat is healthy, but it is not cheap to produce. At first, Eat Just chicken nuggets cost $50 each. The price is now lower.
Some people don't like the idea of eating meat from a laboratory. But these days, more people are worried about their health. People are also worried about animals and the environment.
Many companies are now making clean meat. It is becoming an important business market. 10 years from now, 10 per cent of the world’s meat sales will be clean meat. Now Singapore has accepted it, maybe other countries will soon do the same thing.
