All that glitters is not quite gold - 4th September 2020
These fish are the main exhibit in a new permanent Art Aquarium located in Tokyo, Japan.
Originally a summer exhibition founded in 2007, the Art Aquarium has finally established a permanent gallery in response to the appeal of its captivating annual show.
30,000 goldfish dazzle in illuminated tanks set against a dynamic backdrop of projected images.
Both commonplace and extraordinary goldfish are curated in these displays, set to vary with the seasons, and sculpted tanks accentuate the form of their fluid exhibits.
Artist Hidetomo Kimura, who oversees Art Aquarium, appreciates fish as embodied art and endeavours to capture their beauty, sadly neglected in Japanese art, for all to see.
