Footgolf kicks off in Malaysia - B1

Footgolf: A new sport - 30th July 2020

Footgolf, as you may guess from the name, is a combination of football and golf.

Jeffrey Cottam is the founder of Footgolf in Malaysia.

Jeffrey: “The only difference between golf and footgolf is that the hole is 21 inches (wide) and we use a size five football and your legs are your clubs.”

No one is sure how or when Footgolf began. The earliest recorded competitions were in the Netherlands in 2008. Now, you can play it in about 36 countries.

Footgolf arrived in Malaysia in 2018. Here, around 2,000 people now play the game regularly.

Jamiatul has just played her first game of Footgolf.

Jamiatu: “I think for those who know how to use their capabilities and skills, I think you can manage even though this is your first time playing footgolf.”

Golf is now unpopular in many countries. Young people rarely have the time or money to play. But Footgolf can be played on regular golf courses. This can help golf courses earn money.

You can still become a Footgolf player and train for the next Footgolf World Cup. This event, in Japan, has been delayed until 2021.
