The Queen celebrates 70 years - 16th February 2022
Queen Elizabeth II has been queen for 70 years. It is her platinum year. She came to the throne when her father King George VI died. That was on 6th February 1952, when she was 25 years old.
Now, she is 95 and has been on the throne for 70 years. Normally, she spends 6th February quietly at home. She goes to her Sandringham home, where her father died.
But this year, the Queen made an announcement. She wants Prince Charles' wife, Camilla, to become Queen Consort when Charles becomes king. She wishes that people will treat them in the same way they treated her.
The Queen's platinum anniversary won't be like other years. Instead, there'll be a four day holiday in June. And, there'll be activities similar to her past silver, gold and diamond year celebrations.
Her platinum anniversary will be her first celebration without her husband, Prince Philip. He passed away in 2021. But people remain hopeful that Covid lockdowns will not stop the celebrations.
