Singapore releases vaccine song - 12th May 2021

Singapore has had fewer cases of coronavirus than many other countries. However, as case numbers are starting to increase, the government is encouraging people to get vaccinated. As part of the campaign, it has released a catchy music video.

The video stars a popular TV comedy character called Phua Chu Kang who advises his wife Rosie to get vaccinated. The song is rapped in Singlish, a dialect which mixes English with words from other languages.

Gurmit Singh is the comedian behind Phua. The video explores the reasons why some people are nervous about the vaccination and Phua reassures viewers about the safety of getting the shot.

The video is called "Get Your Shot" and can be seen on YouTube and the Singapore government website, where it appears alongside further medical information.

The character of Phua is known for rapping medical advice in Singapore. At the beginning of the Covid crisis, he also created a song. However, "Get Your Shot" has received international attention.

Speaker of Parliament Tan Chuan-Jin posted about the video on Twitter. He wrote: "Get vaccinated! Otherwise we will have to keep playing this video."
