Hindu festival for Ganesha - C1

Last week saw the culmination of the 11-day festival honouring the Hindu elephant god Ganesha.

In India's financial capital Mumbai, where the festival is the biggest, Hindu worshippers thronged the streets with thousands of highly ornate Ganesha images and effigies. They solemnly carried them to the Arabian Sea or to artificial ponds to immerse them in the water as they bid farewell to the god.

It's an important festival for all Hindus to worship and pray for their good health and prosperity.

Man 1: "People come together, worship and they pray for their prosperity and good health for the year to come."

It's a colourful end to these annual celebrations.
