Singing Swedish dads go viral - B1+

Singing dads go viral - 20th December 2023

Five dads in Sweden have become TikTok celebrities due to their amazing singing. The dads have gathered over 20 million followers to their TikTok channel for their a cappella style singing. But this began while relaxing in a bathtub at Peter Widmark’s bachelor party.

Peter Widmark: "Well, this story all started at my bachelor party where we hang out and we were singing as we usually do when we hang out with each other… yeah in a bathtub."

They were recorded by Peter’s brother who uploaded the video to TikTok. By the following day, they had gained 40,000 followers which grew to over a million within a week. The dads, who are in their 30s, each have two children and would meet up and sing during their parental leave.

Peter Widmark: "When we hang out, the kids can hang out with each other. And as many people see in the videos, the, the, we have a– it’s a soothing thing when we are singing."

With their new found fame, the dads now tour Sweden, under the name 'Dad Harmony', performing live for excited audiences. But for the dads, being on tour isn’t all that exciting. They still return home during the week to work and see their families.

Sebastian Åkesson, Peter Widmark and Michael Aberg: "No televisions flying from the hotel rooms! We have a quite boring tour life. Shovelling snow! It came two metres of snow this week, so I think that’s all the things that we have done during the evenings."

Fans at their concerts seem to like the simplicity of it all.

Emma Solinen: "We Swedes like it in that way! I mean we are humble and like normal people, and we like normal people."

Now with a global fanbase, Dad Harmony’s looking at the possibility of a world tour. But they’ll need to juggle that with childcare.

Sebastian Åkesson: "Hopefully we’ll get to some countries in Europe, maybe the States and somewhere in Asia, but time will tell. We don’t know at the moment."
