These Australian wildfires have burnt non-stop since September. So far, 17 people have died, and the fires have totally destroyed some small towns. They have burned an area bigger than Denmark.
Some bushfires start because of lightning. But often, it’s due to man-made causes. These include campfires, cigarettes, machinery, power lines and burning farmland.
Reports show climate change is making the fires worse. The weather has been hotter and drier for several years. There has been the lowest ever rainfall and unusually strong winds. This has helped the fires grow quickly.
Most fire fighters are volunteers. They face danger every day. While helping fight the fires, one fire crew filmed this video.
Fortunately, the firefighters escaped safely.
