Joe Biden wins and calls for unity - C1

The electorate strikes back - 11th November 2020

Joe Biden has been heralded as the US President Elect. The US networks’ decision desks made the call with some states still in play, verifying that Biden had taken an unassailable lead in Pennsylvania. Awarded its 20 electoral college votes, his total rose to 273, breaking through the required 270 touch line.

In jubilant scenes, Americans rushed into the streets, holding spontaneous nationwide celebrations. President Elect Biden delivered a message of unity at a socially distanced rally near his home in Wilmington, Delaware.

Joe Biden: "I'm a proud Democrat. But I will govern as an American president. I’ll work as hard for those who didn’t vote for me as those who did."

Amassing in excess of 75 million votes, Biden has shattered the previous record set by Hillary Clinton. Vice President Elect Kamala Harris secures some momentous firsts, blazing a trail as the first woman, first Black woman, South Asian American and daughter of immigrants to assume such high office.

Kamala Harris: "And so, I am thinking about her and about the generations of women, Black women, Asian, White, Latina, Native American women who throughout our nation's history have paved the way for this moment tonight."

Refusing to concede, President Trump is instead pursuing litigation in several battleground states, attempting to undermine the outcome with unsubstantiated allegations of electoral fraud.
