Joe Biden wins and calls for unity - B1

Americans celebrate historic win - 11th November 2020

Joe Biden has won the US presidential election. On Saturday, he beat President Trump in Pennsylvania. He won Pennsylvania's 20 ‘electoral college’ votes. This made his total 273, which took him over the winning line of 270 votes.

People celebrated in the streets across the USA. The President Elect gave a speech near his home in Wilmington, Delaware. Biden wants the country to come together.

Joe Biden: "I'm a proud Democrat. But I will govern as an American president. I’ll work as hard for those who didn’t vote for me as those who did."

This was a historic win. Biden received the highest number of votes ever, more than 75 million. Kamala Harris has become the first Black Vice President Elect. She is also the first woman and first South Asian American in the role.

Kamala Harris: "And so, I am thinking about her and about the generations of women, Black women, Asian, White, Latina, Native American women who throughout our nation's history have paved the way for this moment tonight."

President Trump disagrees with the result. He says millions of votes are illegal. He has no evidence of this.
