Help fish, stop plastic pollution - A2

This island is in Greece. It is called Zakynthos. Its beaches and sea are famous. People think they are very clean. But plastic pollution is a danger here too. It hurts fish and turtles.

The organisation Aegean Rebreath wants to save Zakynthos. People come from around the world to help. In three hours they collect a lot- four tyres, two shopping carts, metal boxes, plastic bags, plastic bottles and kilometres of fishing line.

Scientists in Athens find plastic in 20-45 percent of fish. Plastic is also in 75 percent of turtles.

George Triantaphyllidis is one of the scientists. He has an important message: we must change our use of plastics.

George Triantaphyllidis: "I believe that everybody should change its habits. So, we don’t have to use the single use plastics in our daily life. We have to do a small revolution inside ourselves first."
