Liverpool win the Premier League - B1+


Liverpool champions after 30 years - 1st July 2020

Liverpool football club have become champions of the UK Premier League for the first time in 30 years.

Fans ignored social distancing measures to celebrate outside the famous Anfield Stadium.

Fan 1: "Oh my God, I can’t even say how I feel. Amazing, amazing, amazing."

Fan 2: "Amazing, on top of the world fella."

Liverpool's victory came after Chelsea beat Manchester City on Thursday evening. City were the only other team that could have won the championship.

On Wednesday, Liverpool had beaten Crystal Palace 4-0 at Anfield. Manchester City needed to win at Chelsea to keep their chances alive.

However, Chelsea beat City 2-1, which handed Liverpool the championship.

The victory also set a new record because there are still 7 games left to play in the season.

Jürgen Klopp, Liverpool’s Manager, was interviewed after the result.

Klopp: "It's massive. It's massive. What we love is when you have a successful football club in your city, it always gives the city a lift. And I think at this time all cities in the world can need a lift, Liverpool as well, and I am really happy about that."
