David Datuna, a performance artist, was at the Art Basel show in Miami Beach on Saturday, where he shocked crowds. He grabbed a banana which had been taped to the gallery wall and then ate it.
The banana, a work of art called "Comedian", was created by Italian Maurizio Cattelan. A collector had bought the work for $120,000.
Peggy Leboeuf, the gallery owner, ordered Datuna to leave the exhibition.
Peggy Leboeuf: "He was not arrested, but we asked him to leave the booth and to leave the fair. We have his contact and everything, so we can go further, but I don't think we will."
The banana was replaced and taped to the wall 15 minutes later. Spectators began taking photos again.
