Violinist plays during brain surgery - C1

Violinist plays during brain surgery - 28th February 2020

Brain surgeons have been serenaded by a patient who played her violin while they operated on her to remove a tumour.

English musician Dagmar Turner had first received her diagnosis in 2013, with her tumour sited alongside the area of the brain responsible for the manual dexterity required of the violin.

Eager to avoid impairing her coordination, the surgeon hit upon the idea of bringing Turner round whilst they were operating to confirm the faculty was unaffected.

Their surgical precision saw Turner leave hospital three days later.
