First all-woman spacewalk - C1

First all-woman spacewalk - 23rd October 2019

US astronauts Christina Koch and Jessica Meir celebrated making history on Friday when they earned a place in the record books as the first all-female team to do a spacewalk.

They began their mission by undertaking standard safety checks on their suits and tethers before then stepping out to the area to replace a battery.

The first all-female spacewalk had been due to take place in March but was cancelled owing to there not being two medium-sized space suits present on board the International Space Station.

The US launched its first woman into space in 1983 and now boasts more female astronauts than any other space-going country.
