High-flying Indonesian diners - B2

Lounge in the sky - 22nd April 2022

In Indonesia, a restaurant is taking cuisine to new heights. In fact, this new dining experience takes diners more than 50 metres above the ground before serving their meal.

This extraordinary dining room, called “Lounge In The Sky”, is lifted into place by a crane where guests are strapped into their seats and all chefs and servers wear safety harnesses.

The 32 customers, who can enjoy the high flying meal at any one time, pay upwards of $110 for the experience, but it's not just the food that entices them to take to the air for dinner. Dinda Dimas revelled in the experience.

Dinda Dimas: "This is worth such a high price because we can see the scenery and the restaurant rotates while we are eating. The food is also delicious."

However, for others, this high flying restaurant can take some getting used to and a hungry customer may find their appetite vanishes as they look at the void beneath them. Yuni talks about her initial reaction.

Yuni: "At first, it was not easy. I was nervous that I wouldn't be able to swallow the food, let alone drink. But after some time I could eventually eat. It was thrilling!"

The restaurant was launched during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, when followers fast from dawn to dusk. However, bookings have been high, as people choose to break their fast in an unusual location.

Bayu: "It was a bit challenging indeed, but only at the beginning. But because we were up there for an hour, and we were very hungry after fasting, we could eat in the end."

If you want to take your dining experience to the next level, the company’s website has just one simple warning: “Go to the toilet beforehand” otherwise, everyone will have to be grounded!
