Croatia now uses the euro as money.

It just became the 20th country to change.

Before, it used the 'kuna'.

And now its borders are open too.

It joined the 'Schengen' area.

The Schengen area makes it easy for people to travel between European countries.

The government thinks this will help Croatia.

It'll keep business and the economy safe.

It'll be good for the tourist industry too.

This industry brings 20 per cent of the country's money.

Cars from across Europe can now come in.

They don't need to stop for passport control.

It's a happy time for Croatia.

The journey wasn't easy.

From 1991 to 1995, there was a war.

Croatia broke from communist Yugoslavia.

20,000 people died.

But things improved in recent years.

In 2013, Croatia joined the European Union (the EU).

And today it's in the Schengen zone.

These are big changes for Croatia.

"Fantastic.

", said one national newspaper.
