Holi spring festival - 23rd March 2022

Holi is an important Hindu festival. India and Nepal are usually full of colour at Holi. Covid-19 stopped the festival – now, it's back.

Holi is a spring festival. It's about love and new starts. People forget old problems. They pay back money to people. And people hope there'll be enough food too.

Everyone throws colourful powder. The colours have important meanings. Red is for love. Green is for new starts. Blue is for the Hindu god Krishna. Yellow is for health.

In the past, the colours came from plants. Now, factories make lots of the powders. Children fill balloons with coloured water. They drop the balloons onto groups of people. Everyone gets wet and has coloured faces. People spray water everywhere.

Holi's now an international celebration. Hindu people around the world are sharing the festival and its message of hope. It's a time when families meet together too.

The pandemic stopped Holi. So, this year's celebrations are even more important.
