Twin trouble in Sri Lanka! 5th February 2020

Twins are special people. They have the same birthday and the same parents. Some people in Sri Lanka wanted to make a new world record. They wanted to bring lots of twins together.

Twins came from all over the country. They met at a big stadium in Colombo. The record counts how many twins, triplets and quadruplets are in one place.

Taiwan set the record in 1999. It was 3,961 pairs of twins, 37 sets of triplets and 4 sets of quadruplets.

The event in Sri Lanka was very successful. But this made problems for the organisers. Lots of twins came to the stadium. They organisers weren’t prepared. Everyone waited a long time.

The world record has clear rules. All the twins have to stay together for 5 minutes. They have to have a group photograph too. Organisers couldn't follow these rules.

They are now waiting for a decision from the Guinness Book of Records. If they fail, they want to try again.
