Taylor Swift’s record-breaking tour - 2nd September 2024
Taylor Swift's Eras Tour has completed its time in Europe with the 131st concert held at London’s Wembley stadium. From beginning to end, the tour has been record breaking. In London, Swift became the first artist ever to appear at the famous stadium for 8 nights in 1 year and she played to over 700,000 people there.
The tour has been a huge financial success from which Swift has so far gained $1 billion. Experts predict she will earn $2 billion when the tour closes in Vancouver, Canada in December.
The cities where she performed have also received an enormous economic boost. Fans contributed by spending on accommodation, food and travel. The effect has been called “Swiftonomics.”
In London alone, the tour brought about £300 million to the local economy. Across the UK, experts estimate that the total boost is around £997 million.
Swift’s fans, who are known as Swifties, showed incredible excitement during the concerts. In Edinburgh, scientists reported that their energetic dancing made the earth shake, similar to when a mini earthquake happens.
However, not everything went smoothly. Swift had to cancel three shows in Austria due to a serious terrorist threat. The singer shared her fear and guilt about cancelling the shows on instagram, but she was thankful everyone was safe.
The Eras Tour will continue in the United States on 18th October, 2024, but for now, the 34 year old superstar is enjoying a well deserved break. It’s said she’ll probably spend time with her cats and may record some new songs.
