Cure for haemophilia B - 29th August 2022

Haemophilia B is a blood problem. There was no cure. Now, we can make people better.

For people with haemophilia, cuts are a problem. Their blood doesn’t stop. They can die. Normally, the blood stops when you cut yourself. A special protein helps the blood clot. Its name is clotting factor IX. People with haemophilia don’t have enough clotting factor IX. The new medicine can correct this.

Scientists tested the medicine on people with haemophilia. It makes the blood clot and stop bleeding.

The new medicine is very good for people with haemophilia B. They can live a normal life.

Elliott Mason has haemophilia B. He didn’t have a normal childhood. He was scared to get hurt. He couldn’t play sports. Now, he can.

Before, Elliott needed injections. They hurt a lot. The new medicine will help Elliott and people with this problem.

This is exciting news for people with haemophilia A and B.
