Kidney transplant - 12th September 2022

DJ Ace wants to help people. He was sick in 2018. He needed a new kidney. He waited three years for someone, a donor, to give him one. Three years is a long time.

It isn't the same for everybody. DJ Ace is black. White patients wait for one year to get a new kidney. Getting a new kidney is called a kidney transplant.

Patients from the Black and Asian communities have to wait a long time for different reasons. One reason is little education about kidney transplants.

Anyone can give someone a kidney. The donor and the patient need to have the same blood type. Naomi Thomas decided to be a donor. She called the African Caribbean Leukaemia Trust (ACLT). She donated one of her kidneys to DJ Ace. They have the same blood type. The donation was successful.

DJ Ace is famous. He wants people to know that kidney donation is safe and can save lives.
