Covid-19 changes TV habits - 30th August, 2021

Covid-19 changed people's lives. One big change was with free time. In 2019, adults watched under five hours of TV every day. In 2020, adults watched five hours and 40 minutes.

The type of TV is changing too. Now nearly 80 percent of UK houses can watch TV online. Lots of people watch online, or TV streaming services. Netflix and Amazon Prime are two big streaming services.

People watched 65 minutes of streamed TV a day in 2020. In 2019, it was half this time. People spent about 40 minutes a day on YouTube too.

Older adults watched TV for about three hours. They usually watched traditional TV, not streaming services. People now watch TV for 33 percent of their day.

Covid-19 made TV very popular. People couldn't go out. People wanted to hear the news. They wanted to have fun too. They needed a break from their problems.
