Saving the frogs - 17th April 2023

Goliath frogs are the biggest frogs in the world. But they're an endangered species. They're dying out. Scientists are working hard to save them.

Some goliath frogs are the size of cats. They can grow up to 32 centimetres long. They weigh from 600 to 3,250 grams. They live in the rivers of Cameroon and Equatorial Guinea.

For many years, people caught goliath frogs for food. Some people sold them as pets. The frogs' homes are in danger too.

Goliath frogs lay their eggs in rivers. But farmers are damaging these rivers. These are serious problems for the giant frogs.

Some groups are trying to help the goliath frogs. The Cameroonian government put the frogs on a special list. It wants to save the frogs. Local people are helping too. They're making snail farms. The snails are food for the frogs.

These actions are working well. The number of goliath frogs is going up. This is excellent news.
