Trains were unable to get in or out of the capital.
The roads were in chaos.
Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez called for residents to remain indoors.
However, many took to the streets to explore a frozen Madrid.
People got out their skis and sleds and constructed snowmen around Madrid's famous landmarks.
Other central and eastern regions badly affected by the storm were Valencia, Castilla La Mancha, and Catalonia.
Authorities are now making efforts to clear the snow before the temperature falls further.
