Birds spending longer in Europe - 15th November 2021

Lots of birds stay in the same country all year. But some types of birds fly away in different seasons. In winter, they fly from Europe to warm places, like Africa.

Scientists from Durham University in the UK are studying bird habits. Scientists used 50 years of information. They looked at when the birds usually arrive, and when they leave.

They found some big changes. Lots of birds now spend 60 extra days a year in Europe. Climate change might be the problem.

Scientists are worried. In the future, it's possible birds won't fly to Africa. They might stay in Europe. But this will be a problem for European birds. There isn't enough food.

Birds eat seeds from plants. And they eat lots of insects too. So, no birds in Africa will be a big problem there too.
