Scottish chocolates at the Oscars - 13th March 2024

At Hollywood's Oscars, there was another star this year. It was a box of chocolates.

The Oscar nominees are film directors and film actors. Each Oscar nominee receives a bag of gifts. This year, the chocolates were one of the gifts.

The chocolate maker is Fiona McArthur. She has a small shop in the west of Scotland. She makes each chocolate by hand. She was surprised to get the Oscars job.

Fiona McArthur: "The Oscars came about when I was approached by the company that puts together the gift bags and they asked if I'd like to be involved. I couldn't believe it, I actually thought it was fake when they first contacted me because I thought 'I'm such a small brand, I'm so new', like, but yeah, it's, it's real."

The name of her business is FETCHA. Her chocolates are special. Everyone can eat them. They don't have milk or soya. And McArthur doesn't use plastic in her boxes.

McArthur loves films. She sometimes acts too. She wanted these chocolates to be different. She decided to make film chocolates! Her chocolates are about this year's films. The Barbie chocolate is pink. The one for Oppenheimer looks like a bomb.

Fiona McArthur: "So I've got a, a chocolate themed for 'Barbie', a chocolate themed for 'Oppenheimer', and 'Killers of the Flower Moon', 'Poor Things', 'Holdovers' and 'Maestro'. And they're all tailored, like 'Barbie' is pink and 'Oppenheimer' is like a bomb, so it has kind of yellows and oranges and it has popping candy in it. So, they're kind of all themed to the movies themselves."

Fiona McArthur is the Willy Wonka of the Oscars this year!
