Singapore's ravers - 10th April 2023

Raves are special dance parties. Disc jockeys (DJs) play electronic music. Raves are popular with young people. Ravers in Singapore can forget about the country’s rules.

Singapore had strict Covid rules. The government closed all nightclubs for two years. And there were no music festivals.

Now, people can go out and enjoy music again. Young people are excited. Raves are now very popular.

Raves bring different people together. Some ravers are poor workers. Others are rich travellers. Tickets to raves are cheap. The music’s fun and very loud.

People usually think Singapore’s a rich country with lots of rules. Music reporter Kevin Ho disagrees. He says it’s a "crossroads of Asia".

Raves are difficult to plan. Singapore has lots of rules. And many locations are expensive. So, most raves are in private homes or big basements. They’re "beautiful and powerful" says DJ Dean Chew.
