Websites help farmers in South East Asia - 8th June 2020

Websites are helping farmers in South East Asia.

In Malaysia, there is a lockdown. The government closed many places. People have to stay at home. This is a problem for farmers.

Farmers usually sell their food at markets. The markets are closed. They can’t sell their food. Farmers had to throw away a lot of food.

South East Asian company Lazada is helping the farmers. Lazada made a new website. Farmers sell their food on the website. The website is popular. Lazada also made a website for fishermen.

Farmers in Indonesia have a similar problem. They usually sell their food to restaurants. But the government closed the restaurants. Then, no one bought their food.

Some farmers work together. Now, their group is helping other farmers. They are selling the farmers’ food online.

Farmers are not sure about the future. Markets will open after lockdown. But will people go back to markets? Or will they buy food online?
