Seaweed is the next big thing. Sea farmers want to start growing it in the North Sea.
Seaweed is very useful today. People make soup with it. It's good for a lot of other things too. Farmers feed animals seaweed. It helps plants grow. Seaweed is in beauty products. We also use seaweed for packaging. We can use less plastic.
Seaweed is a very valuable crop. Today, almost all seaweed is from Asia. Some people want to grow it in Europe, in the North Sea. They think the cost will increase. Seaweed is very popular.
The European Union is paying for seaweed projects in Scotland, Ireland and the Netherlands. The Dutch want to grow more seaweed in the future.
Not everybody likes farming seaweed. Environmentalists worry that a lot of seaweed is bad. It's bad for the other sea life in the ocean.
A big Dutch company is very interested in growing more seaweed very soon.
