Goodbye Matthew Perry - 8th November 2023

There was sad news for fans of the TV show 'Friends'. The famous actor Matthew Perry died at his home in California. Perry was Chandler Bing in the TV show.

Perry was 54 years old. He began acting at 11 years old. At 24, he started acting in Friends. His character, Chandler Bing, made him very popular.

Many of Perry's fans travelled to New York to say goodbye to the star. They put flowers outside the Friends apartment. Hope Pace travelled from Nashville. She'll miss Perry.

Hope Pace: "Well, I've been fighting tears since I got here. I came because I was able, and I think it's important to pay respect to people who played a big part in our culture."

Friends finished filming in 2004. But many fans like Desislaba Stoeva watch the show every day.

Desislaba Stoeva: "Feel very sad. It's gonna be weird rewatching it again. I actually watch it almost every day. I think he brought a lot of himself into the character and transformed it into something more than what it was."

In his private life, Perry had his own problems. He started drinking alcohol at 14. He got strong medication from doctors too. But he couldn't stop taking it.

Perry's problems were bad for his health. He almost died. After this, Perry tried to help people with alcohol and drug problems. His home became a centre to help people with addictions.

Perry's fans will always remember his kind character Chandler Bing in Friends.

Katie Cutler: "He was such a heartwarming, kind, uplifting person that I feel like everyone could just turn on the TV and feel immediately comforted by him."
