Zoo gorillas get Covid-19 - 4th October 2021

At a zoo in Atlanta, USA, 13 gorillas have Covid-19.

The gorillas caught the virus from a zookeeper. She worked with them every day. She had no health problems. She wore special clothes against Covid-19. But, she gave the illness to the gorillas.

Workers at the zoo saw that the animals were ill. The gorillas had a cough. They didn't want to eat. Then the zoo tested the gorillas. They had Covid-19.

The zookeepers are looking after the gorillas. One animal in the group is Ozzie. The zookeepers are worried about him. He is 60 years old.

In February, eight gorillas at San Diego Zoo got Covid-19. One was 49 years old. He got better.

Everyone wants the gorillas in Atlanta to get better soon. Then, they will get a vaccine. Other animals like orangutans, tigers and lions will get the vaccine too.
